The Iowa Fire Chiefs Association, Inc. was founded in 1951. Its membership was made up of career and volunteer chief officers. The first President was Tom Hickson of Dubuque.

The mission of the Iowa Fire Chiefs Association, Inc. is to assist the management, administrative leadership, and command responsibilities of chief officers and to represent the concerns of chief officers in issues covering the fulfillment of their duties.
